BONDUELLE : Putting CSR at the heart of corporate strategy

1. Organizational Governance

Strategy and organization

Context

The Bonduelle Group started out in 1853 and its ambition is to be the world leader in assuring healthy living through eating vegetables.  It has a sales presence in 100 countries and has 58 company-owned agricultural production and industrial sites. Its development has been resolutely built on two fundamentals: respect for the natural environment (essential for a group whose business is related directly to the earth) and the desire to put people at the heart of its plans.

These plans aim to offer the best of nature in compliance with ethical principles forged by six generations involved in agricultural processing. The Bonduelle group's CSR policy is based on 6 areas: The upstream agricultural process, nutritional quality, natural resources, the supply chain and purchasing, human resources and social commitment.

Objectives

  • Manage the approach within the Bonduelle group
  • Manage CSR performance in accordance with the aim and the objectives of the company
  • Roll out the CSR approach operationally within the Business Units

APPROACH

The sustainable development steering committee was set up in 2002/2003. For the last 2 years, as well as subject and CSR experts, members of the management committees of the 4 Business Units have joined the steering committee to ensure that the strategy is consistently rolled out within their subsidiaries.

CSR indicators are managed using an IT tool, Metrio, which enables all the group's sites to report their CSR indicators and compare each other's performance.

The Google B!GREEN community for CSR has 500 members. It is a tool to raise awareness of and disseminate CSR policy and also to share good practices.

In 2015, as well as its annual general meeting, Bonduelle consulted its external stakeholders via a questionnaire in order to build a materiality matrix and identify its key issues for the next 10 years. The group management committee and CSR steering committee also took part in putting the issues in order of priority.

After distributing its ethical charter, in 2013 the group set up an ethics committee with a consultancy function. The ethical charter, for internal use, formalises Bonduelle's values: a concern for people, trust, openness, simplicity, integrity, equity and excellence.
