LESAFFRE introduces a CSR Awards competition among staff

1. Organizational Governance

Relations with stakeholders

Context

Performing this trade with respect for the planet and its inhabitants while remaining economically profitable is a core company value. Lesaffre has been committed to social and environmental responsibility for a long time. For the first time, Lesaffre organized on 2 and 3 June 2014 the 1st edition of CSR awards, a great challenge today around CSR initiatives undertaken in various countries, branches and units of the group. The idea is now to organize the CSR Awards every 2-3 years.

As a global key player in yeasts and fermentation, Lesaffre designs, manufactures and markets innovative solutions for Baking, Food taste & pleasure, Health Care and Biotechnology. Family group in northern France in 1853, now multi-national and multicultural company, Lesaffre employs 8 300 people.

Objectives

  •  Raise the level of employee awareness regarding CSR challenges and build greater support for our mission: "Acting together to better nourish and protect the planet";
  •  Highlight local initiatives, share them and disseminate them internally;
  •  Promote a "bottom-up" operation to help institutionalize change over the long term. The underlying idea is to organize the CSR Awards competition every 2 or 3 years.

APPROACH

In the aim of drawing attention to CSR initiatives across the Group's 80 subsidiaries, Lesaffre has set up a contest targeting the best social, environmental and economic practices.

The 33 contestant teams representing 21 subsidiaries from 15 countries traveled to the head office to present their CSR projects as part of a major exhibition open to personnel at the Marcq-en-Baroeul and Marquette-lez-Lille sites, as well as to shareholders. Nearly 300 visitors attended the team presentations and voted for their preferred best practice in the 3 designated categories. Moreover, an expert jury with a number of ExCom members named a Jury prize winner in each of these same categories. The individual best practices were all showcased on stands featuring a kakemono scroll to list the actions taken and benefits accrued for the company.

Best Practice spotted in 2014 by the World Forum for a Sustainable Economy and updated in 2015.
