IDKIDS develops day nurseries in neighbourhoods with the support of its foundation - Okworld

7. Community involvement

Community development

Context

«As entrepreneurs, we help the world progress, for the future of all children. »
This is the mission of Idkids, a group combining brands for kids as Okaïdi, Obaïbi, Jacadi, Véronique Delachaux & Oxybul Eveil et Jeux. In line with its primary business, Idkids set up a corporate foundation – Okworld – which funds actions for the protection and respect of children throughout the world. Idgroup is also a « good corporate citizen » with its own association - Rigolo Comme la Vie (RCLV).

Objectives

  •  To create facilities to help children develop and fulfil their potential
  •  To create links between the company, neighbourhood, public sector, and associations
  •  To encourage sponsorship, making available to associations the competences of its employees

APPROACH

In 2004, a non-occupied guard’s house built against a warehouse which had been bought by Okaïdi in Roubaix gave rise to the idea of creating a day nursery for employees and children of neighbourhoods. An association, Rigolo Comme La Vie (RCLV), was launched. In 2005, the first RCLV nursery offering flexible opening hours opened its doors to 16 children - 6 employees’ children and 10 children from families living in the neighbourhood.

With the support of town councils, the « Conseil général », Region and Caf (Family allowance office), Idgroup took action as sponsor through Okworld. RCLV’s intention is to create links between parents and professionals working with young children. Educational projects are focused on children’s autonomy. Learning objectives rely on the need to give a sense of responsibility and on the consideration by the teams of the specific needs of each child, while seeking the commitment of families.

Employees of the group started offering their managerial competences to families and town councils, to care for the community. In Roubaix, Hem, Croix, Tourcoing and Rennes, the growing number of daycare centers and the creation of a recreational facility (center dedicated to extracurricular sports and activities) has encouraged skills sponsorship. Rigolo Comme La Vie also manages day nurseries for companies which are interested in this approach (Mobilis, Jules and Ankama), and develops its own internal training tools and aids to recruit qualified staff members.

Each nursery supports strong values in view of its location. This « living together » philosophy helped initiate in Roubaix at the end of 2010, within RCLV's daycare centers, the hosting of 8 severely disabled youngsters up to 6 years of age; they were included with 17 other children, in partnership with the Noémi Association. In Tourcoing, a Rigolo Comme La Vie nursery will be built near a home for the elderly named "les Orchidées".

In 2013, RCLV represents a 65-persons team which will soon be joined by new members.
