- To be zero net carbon, water and waste as a minimum, and promote green building practices.  

APPROACH

To achieve this aspiration, they work to prevent pollution and explore every opportunity to demonstrate a positive impact on the environment in all their activities and developments, as well as their supply chain. Here are some examples of Land Lease’s sustainable green building projects:

Zero Net Carbon Homes - The Ft. Campbell Family Housing project, in partnership with the Army, have begun developing a demonstration of zero net energy LEED Platinum homes as an achievable standard for new military housing. Using a Department of Defense research grant, the team monitors post occupancy energy and water usage on a net-zero energy duplex home design. By comparing real time data from the net-zero design against standard duplex, the feedback will help make future choices for more efficient homes.

Zero Net Waste - Bluewater Retail Centre in Kent, United Kingdom now diverts 100% of its waste from landfill. All waste which is not suitable for segregation and recycling is sent to a Waste to Energy plant, which places electricity into the National Grid, powering parts of South-East London.

Zero Net Water - The water saving initiatives within the Gauge commercial building in Victoria Harbour will reduce potable water consumption by a further 30 per cent when compared with leading 5 Green Star rated buildings. Some of these initiatives include a black water sewage treatment system on site, grey water re-use, high efficiency fixtures and fittings in toilets, rainwater capture for irrigation of adjacent parkland and cooling tower control systems that limit water wastage.
