CGI - SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE GROUP promotes internal transfers

Human capital development

Context

CGI, a financial institution set up in 1951, is a leader in Motor and Boat financing as well as Debt Refinancing. The company has 800 staff in Europe and 17 branches in France. The challenges of its CSR approach are the same as those of its sales strategy: ensuring the business is sustainable while having an effect on its clients, its employees and society.

In 2011, CGI became the first French company to be assessed for ISO 26000 and achieved the "progression" level. Developing its Human Resources and wellbeing at work are key elements of its CSR policy.

Objectives

Facilitating internal transfers and motivating employees by two main principles of action:

  • Giving everyone the chance to develop in the company according to their confirmed or potential skills, not just their experience;
  • Supporting upskilling with internal training tools.

APPROACH

The strong culture of internal transfers passes through a well-structured pathway:

  • Systematic advertising of all vacant posts on the Intranet, on a recruitment page updated in real time
  • Transfer committees held every six weeks with managers of  different entities. The objective is to facilitate the possibilities of inter-job transfers by working on skills and not just on experience.

There are two tools in place for supporting upskilling and potential:

  • The promotional "pro course"  which allows applicants to acquire a good knowledge of the company and to benefit from a professional and personal development pathway.
  • The "executive passport" , open to "assistant executives" who wish to progress into executive posts (84 hours of classwork, 22 e-learning modules, an assessment examination, a written paper supervised by a tutor and presented to a panel made up of members of management).

CONTRIBUTION TO COMPANY PERFORMANCE

  • Motivated staff and high-quality human resources.
  • 87% of staff say that they are "proud" to work at CGI.
  • Turnover of less than 7.5%

Benefits

  • Staff are pleased with the substantial resources deployed to facilitate their development within the company.
  • Around twenty employees benefit from the "pro course" or the "executive passport" every year.
  • In 2014, 78 employees benefited from internal transfers, of which 26 were promotions with a change of employee grade level.
