GDF SUEZ, in partnership with FACE, accompanies young persons with problems in a return to work

2. Human Rights

Diversity, equal opportunity, and fighting discrimination

Context

Businesses are encountering difficulties in recruiting for certain posts of unskilled labour, partly related to a lack of knowledge of these jobs… In parallel, many young persons do not have access to businesses and cannot manage to find a job.
Against this backdrop, the Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion (Act Against Exclusion Foundation) and GDF SUEZ decided to get together and set up an original and relevant action to create a link between businesses and young persons. This action, which has already been carried out 3 times in the Ile-de-France Region, is expected to be repeated in the Ile-de-France Region in 2011 and extended to the towns of Lille and Metz.

Objectives

To enable major girls and boys without qualifications, who have failed or are experiencing problems, but willing to get into a position where they can obtain stable employment thanks to specific training lasting six months based on rigour, commitment and effort.

APPROACH

There are 5 major areas for Sports Employment Permit:

- Mobility: getting into a situation where they can obtain a driving licence

- Know-how: at the heart of the project, businesses increase awareness about jobs, take in young persons on internships and guide them towards various jobs for which they can apply once they have completed their training courses.

- Citizenship: sportsmen and reserves are stakeholders in revitalizing the sense of partnership and the taste for joint efforts.

- socialisation and citizenship: learning or re-learning the rules of life in society through teaching and training, the  sports initiation internship and "discovery" in the army.

- integration: being part of a working team right from the start thanks to obtaining a driving licence.

- knowledge: discovering various jobs, building up personal career plan, "learn" business and its codes, taking part in various internships with dedicated mentoring.

The business formally undertakes to:
- identify a number of openings and reserve them for the young persons completing the training
- specify the type of contract offered: professional training contract, Fixed-term contract (CDD), Open-ended contract (CDI)...
- take part in the various phases of the project
- appoint the mentors

This operation is subject to a diversified partnership informed by the challenge of “living together”. Several organisations are taking part and funding the project: The Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion (FACE) which is the sponsor of the project; local authorities, the Conseil National des Missions Locales (National Council for Local Missions); Public Employment Department as well as the stakeholders in professional placements, businesses, including GDF Suez and Suez Environnement; sports federations, including the Hand Ball Federation ; the Armies and the National Police Force ; training organisations; the Secretary of State for Urban Policy.
