Strategy and organization

Context

Lesage&Fils is a family-owned SME founded in the 50's which is in the business of wholesale trade of quality meat. In 2011, the leadership had doubts about the sustainability of its business model. It committed to a CSR approach through its "Charter for progress and sustainable development". Lesage&Fils puts a great emphasis on the well-being of its employees. It favours social dialogue, skills improvement and teleworking for a proximity management. Finally, it takes numerous actions aimed at reducing its environmental impact.

Objectives

  • Attracting new talents
  • Raising the purchasing power of its employees
  • Reducing the environmental impact

APPROACH

Context:

• Rural site with no public transport

• Soaring energy prices

• Economic crisis

• Unusual work schedules

In order to attract talents more easily, and also to raise the purchasing power of its employees, François Lesage decided to implement organised car-pooling for home to work journeys since the end of 2012.

The leader geo-located its employees, and with volunteers, he imagined 18 virtual car-pooling lines. A map was drawn, and made available to all employees. It is updated on a regular basis by the leader. The leader and the employees established together the rules of expenses management. Thanks to a number-based approach of the possible savings, the car-pooling agreement was very quickly accepted by the members of the works council.

Mobilisation and awareness-raising meetings are organised for employees. Work schedules can be adjusted (if possible) to favour car-pooling.
