Biodiversity and sustainable resource management

Context

The social responsibility of Ricoh is integrated within the strategy of the group. For 50 years, the company of office equipment has been committed to improving the life quality of its clients; it’s partners and society by leading world-level actions to limit environmental impact.

Ricoh’s commitment towards sustainable development is part of its heritage; it concerns each level of the company, from production to distribution, from operational sites to recycling.

APPROACH

In 1976,  the very first office dedicated to the environment was put in place at the head office in Tokyo. This was the beginning of multiple changes to create the sustainable society that represents Ricoh today.

In 1994, Ricoh established the « Comet Circle » which represents the outline for environmental impact reduction, which includes not only the activity of Ricoh as a manufacturer and commercial organization, but also the product life cycle. In order to reduce the ecological footprint to the maximum, Ricoh identifies the level of its impact at each stage of the product life cycle and all engaged parties.

  • Reintegration of 150 000 recycles products in Europe through the « green line » program
  • No garbage was placed in the trash since 2001
  • Since 2000 Ricoh has decreased its CO2 emissions from its operational processes by 28%

  • In 2009, more than 15% of our employees were involved in collective projects across Europe
