The ROSSEL LA VOIX Group is committed to reducing and recycling its waste

4. Environment

Waste management

Context

The Rossel La Voix group is aware of the challenges of Sustainable Development. It mobilizes its employees and organizes strategic planning committees to implement solutions within and outside the company to better protect the environment.

One of their initiatives was to rethink waste management.

Objectives

The main objectives of this project were to:

  • Improve management of industrial wastes and to reduce environmental risks and meet the requirements of the Imprim'Vert brand;
  • Significantly reduce office waste, especially paper, and recycle a maximum of waste;
  • To create awareness among readers on the actions of sorting and waste reduction.

APPROACH

At the printing process level:

- The use of disposable cloths was abandoned in favor for recycled cloths;
- The use of refillable ink containers was preferred (previously colored inks were shipped in non-refillable containers);
- The modernization of the rotary park has reduced the rate of paper waste.

In the offices:

- The paper is sorted and recycled via different channels (Elected officials, municipalities, associations, etc.);
- A collection system for batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, printer toners and electronic equipment waste was implemented across the group;
- An awareness campaign which encourages employees to reduce their waste every day, mostly the paper (front / back printing, etc.).

The main intention was to extend these practices to the whole group which is about twenty or so companies.

A communication campaign was conducted at all sites to educate all employees.

For the readers:

- The Rossel La Voix group has partnered with Ecofolio, a paper eco-organization to educate its readers on sorting newspapers.
- Thematic articles on waste management are regularly present in all media.

CONTRIBUTION TO COMPANY PERFORMANCE

  • The group has significantly reduced the amount of waste produced and increased the proportion of waste recycled, for example office paper consumption fell by 20% for A4 and 47% for A3!

Benefits

  • An environmental concern that goes beyond the inner perimeter of the company.
  • Awareness of employees and the public in environmental protection.
  • Reducing consumptions : 1500 kg of less rag each year,  7 tons of less waste,  1600 tons of  paper saved per year.
