Yaris production site in Onnaing (59-France) is considering environment preservation as a major strategic development axis. In production terms, this involves saving natural resources and reducing the activities’ impact on the environment. TMMF had already achieved zero waste dumped to landfill from the start of production in 2001, in 2007 the site achieved a further step of 100% waste converted.
Context
Objectives
100% waste conversion
APPROACH
NO LANDFILL DUMPING SINCE PRODUCING THE VERY FIRST YARIS
Generally speaking, TMMF develops performing waste management systems and technologies. The site strictly follows precise routes, such as collecting industrial oils and used solvents for energy conversion, steel and aluminum waste collected for recycling into new material, etc.
Since start of production, no single waste was ever dumped to landfill. TMMF has over 500,000 packaging units for car components, returnable to suppliers to organize parts logistics.
Waste management on site respects environment regulations:
- waste storage on site is limited in time and quantity
- any dangerous waste is placed on a retention tank
- access to waste storage is forbidden to foreign personnel
- waste recycling and conversion is operated by duly authorised companies according to the regulation pertaining to Classified Facilities for Environment Preservation
- regular environment audits are operated at all subcontractors to ensure treatment routes are adequate.
CONSTANTLY IMPROVE WASTE CONVERSION
Using training, permanent employee awareness increase and the search for improved recycling routes, TMMF reached a zero incineration and 100% conversion result in 2007.
Best Practice selected in 2010 by Réseau Alliances and updated in 2012 for its evolution.
