The “Fondation AUCHAN pour la Jeunesse” materialises AUCHAN’s commitment for the young

7. Community involvement

Skills and technology transfer

Context

AUCHAN has made significant commitments to address critical issues – impoverished urban neighbourhoods, purchasing power, employment and inclusion in the labour market, proper diet, preservation of the environment, waste management.
Locally, AUCHAN hypermarkets act in a proactive and concrete way on their environment, by developing partnerships and by supporting people who live in their trading areas, in the long term.
The “Fondation AUCHAN pour la Jeunesse”, which was founded in 1996 under the auspices of the “Fondation de France’’, focuses on these concerns. Its action complements sponsorship campaigns and local partnerships conducted by hypermarkets on a daily basis.

Objectives

  •  To help young people from problem neighbourhoods or rural areas develop their full potential in the community
  •  To offer to these young people the financial means and work experience required to build their approaches and eventually materialise their own projects – e.g. to create their own jobs.

APPROACH

The Auchan Foundation offers support to associations acting on behalf of youth living in cities and districts where Auchan has located its stores, in an effort to engage them in building education-based projects, providing them the opportunity to learn:

  • Reading, writing, arithmetic and general knowledge
  • Creative skills, social reintegration through training and employment
  • Essentials of nutrition and a balanced diet
  • Environmental protection
  • Healthy habits.

The Fondation Auchan is active in countries where Auchan stores are located: China,  Spain, France, Hungary, Italia, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Roumania, Ukraine, Taïwan. In France, through its Special Prize, the Foundation has been financing every year since 2006 projects sponsored by student associations at Auchan partner schools and universities.
