Air France shares the fruit of growth with low-skilled people

7. Community involvement

Community development

Context

The strong development of the hub of Air France at Roissy causes the company to have substantial needs in employment and also generates needs within company subcontractors or companies on site practicing activities additional to the air transport (shops, catering, services…). However an important part of the youth living near the airport platform of Roissy is low-skilled and “out of kilter” with these companies’ needs.

Objectives

  • To integrate more than 600 low-skilled young people over 5 years. Concerning Air France, to train them to different jobs in air transport: areas of strip, operation, freight, sales including the cabin crew.

APPROACH

Through the creation of an association of companies, on the platform of Roissy. This association called “Jeremy” was originally composed of 11 companies and committed only to train people they are sure to hire. They select them before beginning their training and follow them personally. Once in the company, they are sponsored by a “tutor”.

The association “Jeremy” now gathers 19 companies and is also active on the platform of Orly. It is willing to share its experience with other companies or territorial platforms, thus two initiatives have been taken :

  • The creation of the association of integration engineering: Jeremy Développement
  • The formalization of a feedback on practices around a network of managers from the companies committed to Jeremy

CONTRIBUTION TO COMPANY PERFORMANCE

  • The youngsters who are now integrated, are particularly motivated, and Air France has been acknowledged for this action: the association “Entreprise et Progrès” awarded Air France with the prize of “the lasting integration of youngsters by the company”. Jeremy has been chosen by the Île-de-France Region as a reference point to access employment and qualification on Parisian platforms

Benefits

  • Sharing the benefits of our growth with local low-qualified populations
  • Helping the local populations better accept an activity that remains a source of noise despite all our efforts
