Nacarat complies with ISO standard 26000

1. Organizational Governance

Strategy and organization

Context

Although the building sector is very concerned about the challenges posed by sustainable development, few companies in this sector incorporate it intp their strategy.

NACARAT, a property development company of the Rabot Dutilleul Group, defines its strategy in relation to the three pillars of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility): economy, ecology and social affairs. This sustainable development strategy, structured around the ISO 26000 international standard, is monitored by an independent body, the French standards association AFNOR.

Objectives

  • To ensure a lasting future for the company through a strategy enabling it to meet future challenges while highlighting and promoting a vision based on the Group’s values.
  • To structure and publicise the company’s CSR strategy.

APPROACH

1. In 2011, an AFAQ 26000 discovery audit was carried out by AFNOR in association with Nacarat's stakeholders (banks, customers, associations, shareholders, etc.).

One of Nacarat's strengths, as highlighted during this audit, is our eco-design software (ASAP) that makes it possible to raise the right questions once the initial studies on a real estate project have been completed. CSR performance is thus being systematically measured across all programs.

The outcome of this audit was a CSR strategy evaluated at level 1: "Commitment".

2. Development and implementation of a strategic plan that incorporates conclusions of the discovery audit as well as a file on CSR-related steps (see this file).

3. An ISO 26000 audit. In 2013, Nacarat opted to have its organization audited for a second time. This follow-up audit enabled us to reach level 2: "Progression". In citing AFNOR's report: "The score awarded effectively illustrates the company's outstanding mobilisation with respect to the key challenges directly tied to the core of its mission: acting as a responsible developer; accompanying the client in selecting a housing solution that satisfies basic needs; striving for economic equilibrium; and managing human resources to promote collaboration. The practices adopted by the Nacarat company are, according to this yardstick, considered well established and often exemplary."

To formalise its approach to CSR, Nacarat together with Réseau Alliances has written its detailed CSR policy statement, which is based on the Réseau Alliances - World Forum Lille benchmark methodology and on the seven basic assessment questions asked by the ISO 26000 standard. (detailed CSR policy).

Best Practice spotted in 2012 by the World Forum Lille and updated in 2014.
